    Indeed,
We sent it (i.e. the Qur'aan) down in the Night of Decree. And what can
make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is
better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit (i.e. Gabriel)
descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it
is until the emergence of dawn.”
    (Al-Qadr: 1-5).

    Laylat al-Qadr (Arabic:
لیلةالقدر) (also known as Shab-e-Qadr), the Night of Destiny, the Night of Decree
or Night of Measures, is the anniversary of two very important dates in Islam that occurred in the month of Ramadan. "Qadr" is Arabic for destiny. It is the anniversary of the night Muslims believe the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Islamic prophetMuhammad.
Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134
    Laylat
Al-Qadr is the anniversary of the night that the Qur'an says it was
revealed. Muslims generally believe that revelation of the Qur'an
occurred in two phases, with the first phrase being the revelation in
its entirety on Laylat Al-Qadr and then the subsequent verse-by-verse
    revelation to the Prophet

    Muhammad by the angel Gabriel

size=16]The Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Whoever
prays on Laylat al-Qadr out of faith and sincerity, shall have all their
past sins forgiven.” [Bukhari and Muslim, from Abu Hurayra (Allah be
    pleased with him)]
    [/size]

The Prophet (Allah bless him & give him peace) also said, “Seek it in
the last ten days, on the odd nights.” [Bukhari and Muslim from Abu
Sa`id al-Khudri (Allah be pleased with him)]

The scholars affirm that it is the best of nights, [al-Fatawa al-Hindiyya,
quoting Mi`raj al-Diraya, 1.216] because of Allah Most High’s words,

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134
“Lo! We revealed it on the Night of Power.
Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Night of Power is!
The Night of Power is better than a thousand months.
The angels and the Spirit [Jibril] descend therein, by the permission of their Lord, will all decrees.
(That night is) Peace until the rising of the dawn.”
    (Qur’an, Surat al-Qadr: 97)
Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134
Imam Nawawi and others explain that ‘The Night of Power is better than a
thousand months,’ means that it is better than a thousand months without
    it.

Given the tremendousness of this night, it is recommended to seek this night,
and to worship Allah in it, with prayer, supplication (du`a),
remembrance (dhikr), and other actions. [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar,
quoting Mi`raj al-Diraya, and Nawawi, al-Majmu`] Because obligatory acts
are more beloved to Allah than supererogatory ones, the most important
thing for men is to pray both Isha and Fajr at the mosque.

    When is it?
Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134
There is great difference of opinion about this, because it is of the matters
whose certain knowledge has been lifted by Allah Most High from this
Ummah, for the wisdom that people strive to seek it:

In general, it is agreed that it is most likely to be in the last ten
nights of Ramadan, with the odd nights being more likely. Of the odd
nights, the night of the 27th (which is the night before the 27th of
Ramadan, for the Islamic day starts with nightfall) is most likely. Imam
Shafi`i said that it is most likely to be the 21st, then the 23rd, then
the 27th. Imam Nawawi followed the position of Imam Muzani and Imam Ibn
Khuzayma that it Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Thread_moveds around within the last ten nights. [Nawawi, al-Majmu` Sharh al-Muhadhdhab, 6.488]

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134
However, it could be outside the last ten nights within Ramadan. It may even be
outside Ramadan according to both early and late scholars. This has been
transmitted from many of the Companions of the Prophet (Allah bless him
& give him peace), including Ibn Mas`ud (Allah be pleased with
him). It is one of the reported positions of Imam Abu Hanifa, and also
of many of the great knowers of Allah, including Ibn Arabi (whose
position is quoted by Ibn Abidin with support), Abu’l Hasan al-Shadhili,
    Sha`rani, and many others.

May Allah give us the success of following in the footsteps of the
inheritors of the Prophet (Allah bless him & give him peace),
outwardly and inwardly, and may He make us of those whom He loves.

This is one of the many reasons why one should strive to establish the night vigil prayer (tahajjud), daily.
    Explanation:
Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134
It has been reported that, “Once the last ten [days of Ramadan] started,
the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him, his family, and
companions) used to spend the nights in worship, wake his family,
strive, and tighten his belt.” [Bukhari and Muslim] Tighten his belt
    refers to determination.

The established position of Abu Hanifa and his two main companions, Abu
Yusuf and Muhammad ibn al-Hasan (Allah have mercy on them) is that it is
specific to Ramadan. Abu Hanifa said that it is not a fixed day but,
rather, it mov es around in the month. [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar,
from al-Bahr and al-Kafi] As for the hadiths about it being the night of
the 27th, Ibn Abidin mentions that Abu Hanifa explained them as meaning
    a particular year.

Ibn Abidin quotes Ibn Nujaym’s Bahr al-Ra’iq that this is one transmitted
position of Abu Hanifa. Another, mentioned in Qadikhan’s Fatawa
al-Khaniyya, one of the most important works for fatwa in the school, is
that the famous transmission from Imam Abu Hanifa is that it mov es
around the entire year; it could be in Ramadan, and it could be in
    another month.

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134
    Ibn Abidin said,
    “This
is supported by what the Master of the Knowers of Allah Sayyidi Muhyi
al-Din Ibn Arabi mentioned in his Futuhat al-Makkiyya,

    ‘People
differed about Laylat al-Qadr. Some said it mov es around the entire
year. This is my position, for I have seen it in the month of Sha`ban,
and in Rabi`, and in Ramadan. I have seen it most, though, in the month
of Ramadan, and, specifically, in the last nights. I saw it once in the
second third of Ramadan, on an even night, and once on an odd night.
Therefore, I am certain that it mov es around the entire year, on both
    odd and even nights.’

And there are many opinions regarding this, which reach 46 different positions.” [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]
    This
is reported to be the position of Ibn Mas`ud (Allah be pleased with
him) and other great Companions. [As mentioned by Bututi in his Kashshaf
al-Qina`, and others; for the many narrations from the Companions and
Followers about Laylat al-Qadr, see Ibn Abi Shayba’s Musannaf]

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134
    Imam
    al-Nafrawi al-Maliki mentions in his al-Fawakih al-Dawani fi Sharh
Risalat Ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani that the position of Imam Malik, Imam
Shafi`i and Imam Ahmad, and the majority of the scholars is that Laylat
al-Qadr is not a specific night. Rather, it mov es around.

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134
    Imam
Sarakhsi mentions in his Mabsut, a 30-volume masterpiece of Hanafi
legal reasoning, proofs, and comparative fiqh that was mainly authored
by dictation to students while unjustly imprisoned in a pot well, that
the position of most of the Companions (Allah be pleased with him) was
that it is on the night of the 27th. (3.127) This understood, others
explain, to mean that its most likely night is the night of the 27th of
Ramadan. [As in Ruhaybani’s Matalib Uli’n Nuha Sharh Ghayat al-Muntaha
    2.225 in Hanbali fiqh]

Whosoever offers voluntary prayers during the Night of Power out of belief and

Now I would like to pray the Prayer of Reco llection (salat ul-tasabih) to
express a little bit of praising from our side to glorify our Lord
Almighty Allah. That glorifying Allah Almighty in salat ul-tasabih
consists four cycles of prayer (raka'ats) in which we are glorify our
Lord 300 times by saying "Glory be to God, all praise be to God, there
is no god but the One God Allah, God is Most Great!" (Ar. "Subhanallahi
wal hamdulillahi wa la ilaha illa Allahu wa Allahu Akbar." May Allah
Almighty glorify His beloved and most praised servant, Sayyidina
Muhammad (S), and may mercy from His endless mercy oceans fall on you,
and fall on our descendents, and fall on our ancestors, fall upon east

    Laylat
al-Qadr is meant to be the night on which a Muslim shows the greatest
devotion possible, to God. In this regard, a Muslim is expected to pray
earnestly, right from the beginning of the day. The night
    prayers
are the most important on this day. Muslims pray to the Lord, asking
for his blessings and also in the hope that all their wishes will be
    granted by God.

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134
If possible, an individual will spend the entire ten day period within the
mosque. This is called 'Itikaf' or retreat. He will fast and perform the
five daily prayers. In addition to these obligations, he will also devote himself to studying the Quran as well as performing charitable works.

    Making Supplications

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134

It is also recommended to make extensive supplication on this night. Ayesha
(radhiallahu Anha) reported that she asked Allah’s Messenger
(sallallahu Alayhi wa sallam), “O Messenger of Allah! If I knew which
night is Laylat ul-Qadr, what should I say during it?” And he instructed
her to say: “Allahumma innaka Afuwwun tuh.ibbul Afwa fa`fu Annee – O
Allah! You are forgiving, and you love forgiveness. So forgive me.
” [Recorded by Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and at-Tirmithi. Verified to be authentic by Al-Albani]

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134

Abandoning Worldly Pleasures for the Sake of Worship

It is further recommended to spend more time in worship during the nights
on which Laylat ul-Qadr is likely to be. This calls for abandoning many
worldly pleasures in order to secure the time and thoughts solely for
    worshipping Allah.

    Ayesha (radhiallahu Anha) reported: “When
the (last) ten started, the Prophet (sallallahu Alayhi wa sallam) would
tighten his izaar (i.e. he stayed away from his wives in order to have
more time for worship), spend the whole night awake (in prayer), and
    wake up his family.
    ” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item134

And she said: “Allah’s Messenger (sallallahu Alayhi wa sallam) used to
exert more (in worship) on the last ten than on other nights.” [Muslim]

In each of the daily prayers we offer, we solemnly declare to Allah,Iyyaka na’budu
(You alone do we worship). While the intelligent and committed believer
realizes that his very lifestyle spells worship, he knows, remembering
the words of our Prophet (pbuh) that
“Du’aa’ (supplication) is worship” [Tirmidhi, Abu Daud]

Allah, the Most Merciful, has encouraged the believers to take advantage of
certain times during the year to make du’aa’. Such an occasion presents
itself annually during Ramadan — especially on the Lailat-ul-Qadr,
the Night of Power. On this night, the single most important event in
human history unfolded as, after the Glorious Quran was preserved in the
Protected Tablet, Jibril descended with the blessed book to reveal it, upon Allah’s command, to His Messenger (pbuh).

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) 89
Accentuating its significance, Allah says And how would you know (the value of the) Night of Qadr.” [97:2] So valuable is this Night of Qadr that the Quran devotes a special surah to it. “Lailatul Qadr is better than a thousand months [97:3] This one night surpasses the value of 30,000 nights.
The most authentic account of the occurrence of the Night indicates that it
can occur on any one of the last ten, odd numbered nights of Ramadan.
The fact that the exact night is unknown reflects Allah’s will in keeping it hidden. Indeed, the Prophet (pbuh)
was prevented from telling us its precise time. One day, he came out to
tell the companions the exact night. On the way he saw two men arguing
with each other. By the will of Allah, he (pbuh) forgot and subsequently remembered it. Afterwards the Prophet (pbuh) was instructed not to divulge this information.

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) 89
“Had I been allowed,” he (pbuh) remarked once, “I would have told you (of its exact time).” [Ahmad]
    The
Almighty in His wisdom kept this hidden from us for many reasons.
Perhaps He wants us to strive hard in our worship during the last ten
days of Ramadan so that we don’t become lazy, worshipping hard on just
that one night and denying ourselves the benefit of doing the same on
    the other nights.
“Had people not left their salah except for that (one) night, I would have informed you (of its exact date).” [Al-Tabarani]

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) 89
    The
sincere believer who worries day and night about his sins and phases of
neglect in his life patiently awaits the onset of Ramadan. During it he
hopes to be forgiven by Allah for past sins, knowing that the Prophet (pbuh)
promised that all who bear down during the last ten days shall have all
their sins forgiven. To achieve this, he remembers the Prophet’s (pbuh)
advice in different sayings wherein he used words like “seek”,
“pursue”, “search”, and “look hard” for Lailat-ul-Qadr. Moreover, Allah
and His Prophet (pbuh) provided us some signs of its occurrence. Allah (swt) describes the night as
“..peace until the rise of the morn.” [97:5] In various sayings, the Prophet (pbuh)
described the night as serene, tranquil, and peaceful. The sun at
sunrise would appear reddish and without its normal blazing and sharp
rays. The Prophet (pbuh) added that
“the angels on earth on that night of Qadr will be more numerous than all the pebbles of the earth.”

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) 89
    What
should one do during the last ten days in pursuit of Lailat-u- Qadr?
The devoted servant of Allah makes these nights alive with prayer,
reading and reflecting on Quran. He makes du’aa’ to Allah, penitently beseeching Him for His forgivness. He is inspired by the Prophet’s (pbuh) words
    “Our
Lord, most Exalted, Most high comes down to the lowest heaven during
the last third of each night and announces (reassuringly): Whoever makes
du’aa’, I shall answer it. Whoever asks (for something halal) I shall
grant it; and whoever seeks forgiveness, I shall forgive him.”
[Bukhari] The believers, conscious of Allah and their sins, will continue to beseech Allah,
in and out of prayer, during their prostrations. For a time, the only
concern will be cleansing oneself of the forgetfulness that this life
propagates in one’s heart, the sins that accumulate, darkening the
heart, making it insensitive to disobeying Allah. The believer begs Allah to keep him away from misfortunes in this world, the punishment of the grave, and the torment of Hell. He asks Allah
to make him patient and steadfast in struggling to maintain his Islam
in this world and asks Him to overlook his shortcomings, periods of
    laziness and neglect.

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) 89
    Sincere
devotion on that night will render the believer forgtful of the time,
until he is surprised by the Adhaan of Fajr. After Fajr, as the sun
creeps above the horizon, reddish and weak in its appearance, without
any rays, the effort at night will have been worthwhile. The believer
rejoices, knowing that this was quite possibly Lailat-ul-Qadr and
    “whoever
stays up (in prayer and remembrance of Allah) on the Night of Qadr
fully believing (in Allah’s promise of reward for that night) and hoping
to seek reward (from Allah alone and not from people), he shall be forgiven for his past sins.”
    [Bukhari, Muslim]

    How to perform Salat-al-Tasbeeh?
Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) 230Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) 230
This salaat (salaa/namaz) is offered in four Raka’t at a time and can be
read in any part of the day and night besides Zawal and Sunrise and
Sunset makrooh times, keeping in mind the forbidden times for performing
Salat (namaaz). But is is preferred before Zuhr (Fatawa Alamgeeri)

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item8
    What to Tasbeeh?
Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) 230
The Tasbeeh to be read in Salat-al-Tasbeeh:
“Subhaan Allahi Wal-Hamdulillahi Wa-La-ilaha illallaahu Wallahu Akbar”

    Method (Proposed):
Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) 230
Goal is [b]to recite above Tasbeeh 300 times in Four Rakah
i.e. 75 times in one Raka’t! You can even split these 75 times into a
more convenient method of your choice. One method is as follows:

    1. In the first rakaat, after reading Sana “Subhaana Kallahumma…”, read the above Tasbeeh 15 times.
    2. Now recite Aaoz “Aoozubillah…”, Bismillah “Bismillah…”, Then read sura
Fatiha and a Surah or minimum of three small Ayayhs then read the
    Tasbeeh 15 times
    again.

    3. Go to ruku’ saying Takbeer (Allah Hoo Akbar), after reciting “Subhaana Rabbiyal Azeem” minimum of three times read the Tasbeeh 15 times in Ruku.
Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item8
    4. Saying “Samee Allahu Liman Hamidah Rabbana Lakal Hamdh” get up from ruku’ to qiyam position and Now read the Tasbeeh 15 times.
    5. Go to Sajdah saying Takbeer (Allah Hoo Akbar) and after reciting “Subhaana
Rabbiyal A’la” minimum of three times read the Tasbeeh 15 times
    in Sajdah.

Reading it 15 times in a go for 5 times make it 75 times in each Rakaat. Simple!
Get up to begin 2nd Raka’t saying Takbeer (Allah Hoo Akbar). Repeat the above method in each Rakaat.
Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item8
    Special notes for Salat-al-Tasbeeh:
Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) 230Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) 230
    1. Do not count loudly. It will break Salaah
    2. Do not count on fingers or by holding a Bead Tasbeeh in hand. It is Makruh.
    3. You may count by pressing the fingers as a reminder. For example if you are
in Ruku. You me press pinky of your right hand first for the first
count, then the finger next to it for second count, then the middle
finger for third count, following this method until you reach the pinky
of left hand will give you an exact count of ten. Use the same method in
    Qayaam, Sajdah and Jalsa.

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item8
    4. If missed a count then make it up in the next posture. For example if
forgot to recite Tasbeeh after Surah in Qayaam. Then you may recite
Tasbeeh 30 times instead of 15 in ruku’ after “Subhaana Rabbiyal Azeem”.
Missed Tasbeeh cannot be recited in Qayaam after ruku’ and Jalsa
between Sajdah. If you missed the Tasbeeh in ruku’ then recite 30 in the
first Sajdah instead of the Qayaam after rukuh. Similarly if missed the
Tasbeeh in first Sajdah then do not make it up in Jalsa. Instead recite
missed Tasbeeh in the second Sajdah. If Tasbeeh has been missed in last
sajdah of second or fourth Rakah then you can recite the missed ones
    before Attahiyat in Qaidah.

    5. If you miss a wajib in Salah and have to do Sajdah Sahaw. You don’t have
to recite Tasbeeh in Sajdah sahoo, since the 300 count has been
established. But if you had missed Tasbeeh in any of the postures and
remember it now. Then you may recite the missed Tasbeeh in Sajdah Sahoo
    now.

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item8
    6. It is preferable to recite after Surah Fatiha Sura Takathuur in the first
raka’, Surah Wal A’sr in the second raka’, Surah Kaferoon (qul ya
aiyuhal Kafiroon) in the third and Surah Akhlas (Qul hu wAllah-hu ahad)
in the fourth raka’. If one does not remember these Surah they can
recite the any other they prefer.

May Allah accept this dua’ (supplication) for the sake of the trustworthy
PROPHET MOHAMMED (Allah’s Grace & Peace be upon him) and bless the
source/provider(s) of this article and it’s readers as well.

    Amen

    The
Qur'an praises the Night of Power. It informs us that the Night of
Power is better than a thousand months (which do not include that
night). So, the believer who passes that night with ibadah and makes a
good profit out of it acquires as much reward as if s/he passed a
thousand months with ibadah. In other words, s/he finds the opportunity
to earn the thawab (reward for good deeds that is tallied on
qiyamah/judgment day) only at one night, which, otherwise, s/he could
earn in such a long life as 80 years.

Laylat al-Qadr( Night of Destiny) Item8
According to a narration by Abdullah Ibn-i Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Whoever wants to search for the Night of Power, let him/her search at the 27th night.” (Musnad, 2:27), he thus advised us to pass the 27th night awake with ibadah and dhikr (remembrance of Allah).
If we celebrate that night with this prayer, which the Prophet taught to
Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, it would be more virtuous:

Allahumma innaka afuwwun, karimun, tuhibbu’l-afwa, fa’fu anni.”

(O my Allah! You are much forgiving, much generous; you love forgiving; forgive me.) (Tirmidhi, Daawat: 84)
